Russian Cosmism philosophers, and Nikolay Fedorov, first and foremost, reacted to the 19th century Nietzscheanism and Nihilism combining science and religion to create the theory on the potential for an infinite life for an individual human being and provided the proof that every person which has ever lived on our planet should be brought to life again.

Interpreting Fedorov’s theory, Boris Grois discusses biopolitics as the mechanism of regulating the relations between the state and the individual in future. He regards the human being as an object of art, an artifact, an exhibit within the state which, in its turn, takes up the role of the Museum. The responsibilities of the Museum-State include the conservation of exhibits, maintaining life in them, and their immortality.

Fedorov believed that a skillful articulation of an idea is a sufficient basis for its successful realization. So, Cosmists articulated the idea that, sooner or later, the development of technology will make the physical immortality of individual human beings possible. This would raise the issue of the discrimination of the dead by the living: why the latter can enjoy everything, while the former have nothing—neither eternal life, nor the benefits of high-tech civilization? And, as a response to the moral problem, Fedorov articulated the task of resurrecting all the people who have ever lived on Earth.

Let us suppose that resurrection has been made technologically possible—where is room for such a huge multitude? Consequently, the brilliant philosopher has the idea of space exploration and the spread of mankind over the infinite universe. The idea was so inspiring that Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, Fedorov’s follower and fellow philosopher, was able not only to make the necessary mathematical calculations, but also to manufacture the first functioning model of the rocket and test it successfully. The start of space exploration was accompanied with huge enthusiasm in 1960s—the era of space opened unprecedented opportunities.

But we still have a long way to go before we are able to resurrect the dead. Scientists – experts in biology, genetics, gerontology – are looking for the gene of death in human beings, pursuing successful experiments involving animals, and they promise to create the technology which could make human life two or three times longer within 20 years. Imagine that we have achieved immortality and are about to resurrect human beings. The idea looks simultaneously colossal and scary: suppose that we have sufficient living space for all, but should we bring back into our life murderers and rapists, those, who started global wars, who built concentration camps for prisoners of war and political opponents? Russian Cosmists did not foresee it, they couldn’t even imagine such things! If we resurrect scoundrels and rapists, we risk creating Hell both on Earth, and in space. Feodor Dostoyevsky described something like that in his The Dream of a Ridiculous Man. After shooting himself, Dostoyevsky’s personage finds himself on a paradise planet where people do not know greed and jealousy, hatred and enmity. An ordinary person from our world, in fact, teaches them all these evil passions and destroys their peaceful, paradisiacal life.

If we could only lay our hands on the lists of those who were admitted to paradise, we would resurrect them first, and our society would acquire humanistic characteristics at once. But, firstly, they would hardly be eager to leave the heaven and descend onto our planet, and, secondly, we don’t have those lists. The Church is believed to be God’s Institution on the Earth, but the only thing we can get there is the list of martyrs, of the blessed, of those consecrated as saints. Let us suppose that we were able to resurrect them. But it is a tiny part of the people we should resurrect, as multitudes of noble people and unknown laborers would not see the paradise on Earth then. And if we resort to the exclusion principle, we should resurrect women (with the rare exception of plotters and villainesses) first, as, historically, women were not murderers, rapists, they did not provoke wars, did not fan up hatred between nations. Being gatekeepers on the passage between life and death, the woman has always treated life as ultimately valuable. So, we shall not make a mistake if we resurrect women.

And, if we take it for granted that the Church, as God’s Institution on Earth, would manage the resurrection of martyrs and saints, somebody would have to take up the resurrection of ordinary people of different confessions, and non-believers too. For starters, The Museum of a Woman could be such an institution. Its purpose would be not only to learn as much as possible about the outstanding and worthy women of the planet (what are their true traits, ambitions, desires, and values), but also to become the laboratory of new life, life without wars, rivalry, and violence. We are on the threshold of the era when women are going to make a huge contribution to the development of civilization, or, rather, take it to the new, humanistic, development path.

What processes and experiments will be under way in the labs of the Museum of a Woman?

Our plans are not limited to gender topicality in art, one of our main themes will be the development of the theory of Neosyncretism, of the new art, comprehensive in its form and multifaceted in its effect on the human being.

And there’s one more global theme—the design of a new high-tech humanistic society. This research goes on in the border areas separating art and science, various kinds of art and spheres of activity: healthy living, prolongation of life and youth, immortality, spiritual development practices are the main concerns of this laboratory.

Its interests also include eco-settlements as an attempt to establish harmony between the human being and the objective world—the design and development of such settlements.

Both women, and men who share our views will participate in the activities of the Museum.
