HILLS ON ICONS / ИКОННЫЕ ГОРКИ
В деревне Остров, по старому – в царском селе, на высоком холме, в пойме Москвы-реки стоит храм Преображения Господня построенный в ХVI веке по заказу царя Ивана Грозного. Восточный фасад храма полностью повторяет икону Преображения.* Вблизи от этого монументального храма, на склоне холма, находится участок и старый дом, где летом на даче живут мои родственники. Пришло время заменить его на новый. Основой для образа послужили иконные горки – характернейший сюжет русской иконописи, пришедший из Византии. Икона Преображения как правило включает изображение иконных горок. Если храм сошел с иконы в реальный ландшафт русской природы, почему бы иконным горкам не превратиться в дома, окружающие его? Небольшое здание площадью 350 кв. м — загородный дом, для семьи из 3-х человек. Фасады ориентированы на храм и на речку. В строительстве традиционные техники и натуральные материалы будут сочетаться с новейшими техническими возможностями. Стены возводятся из соломенных брикетов штукатурятся гашеной известью. В гостиной – двусветное пространство и камин. В цокольном этаже — система освещения натуральным светом — световодами из зеркальных труб. Проект находится в стадии разработки. Возможно, местным жителям понравится идея, и деревня постепенно приобретет вид ожившей иконы. Тогда можно будет построить в этом же стиле магазин, рынок, бассейн; построить гостиницы, в которых смогут останавливаться паломники, приехавшие к храму и те, кто хочет посмотреть на замечательное царское село.
* – Восточный фасад храма в точности повторяет икону Преображения: на горе Фавор (холм) упали ниц три ученика Христа – Иоанн, Иаков и Петр (три апсиды алтарей), над ними стоят Илия и Моисей (барабаны с главками и крестами), и еще выше сам Иисус Христос (шатер с барабаном, главой и большим крестом). Перед зодчим храма была поставлена цель — создать архитектурную икону Преображения Господня.
In the village of Ostrov, or the royal settlement as they called it in the past, the Church of the Transfiguration of Our God*, built in the 16th century on the order of Ivan the Terrible, crowns a high hill in the flood lands of the Moskva River. The eastern façade of the church recreates the Transfiguration icon. My relatives have a plot of land and an old house where they go in summer on the slope of a hill not far from this church. It was time to replace the old house with a new one. The design of the new house was based on the hills on icons – a motif characteristic of Russian icon painting which is traced to Byzantium art. The icon of the Transfiguration of Our God features this motif, as a rule. If the church stepped down from the icon into the Russian rural landscape, why the hills from the icons should not turn into the houses surrounding this church? The house is not large, just 3500 square feet of floor space, a home for a family of three. Its facades look upon the church and the river. Traditional methods and natural materials combined with state-of-the-art technology will be used in the construction process. Walls will be made of straw blocks and plastered with burnt lime. The living room will have double height space and a fireplace. The semi-basement will be equipped with the natural lighting system featuring light pipes with mirror surfaces. The draft is being developed at present. Perhaps, locals will like this idea, and the village will be gradually transformed into a living icon. We could build a shop, a market, a swimming pool, hotels for pilgrims arriving to visit the church and for the people who would like to see the wonderful royal settlement.
* -The eastern façade of the church recreates the icon of the Transfiguration of Our God: three disciples of Christ – John, Jacob, and Peter (three apses of the altar), Elias and Moses are standing above them (drums and smaller domes with crosses), and Jesus Christ himself towers over them (the tent with the drum, the dome, and the large cross). The architect of the church had to tackle a singular task – he was to make an architectural icon of the Transfiguration of Our God.
