SPACE ARK

As the threat of a global ecological catastrophe looms, the conscious part of humanity comes together to recreate all the species of animals and plants that once existed, preventing the death of all life on Earth. In 2076, the 1st International Testing Station for the restoration of lost animal species opens. Her plans are ambitious and large-scale: Through the efforts of artists and genetic scientists, it is necessary to restore all the once-existing animals of Earth. In the middle of the 21st century, through the work of researchers, it became known for certain that mermaids, centaurs, sphinxes and other «fantastic» creatures really existed in ancient civilizations of the Earth. All of them, by decision of the Council of Confederations, are subject to restoration.

To recreate ancient animal species, the Laboratory partially reproduces paintings by Bosch and drawings from the Bestiary — a medieval encyclopedia in which artists depicted animals they saw and those they drew according to their description.

In parallel, preparations are underway for an intergalactic journey of people, animals and plants to the planet Eos, which is close in terms of life conditions to Earth. Among the volunteers, astronauts, scientists and engineers, representatives of various religious denominations embark on the expedition.

In view of the long journey ahead, the plan is for the animals to be recreated so that they can feed only on water and air, through photosynthesis following the example of plants. The entire expedition will thus become a kind of Noah’s Ark, which makes its voyage into the boundless ocean of space. If the travelers fail to make it to Eos alive, the life support system will put them into a state of suspended animation. The Space Ark will then turn into the Museum of Earth’s Natural History, it will become a beacon to alien civilizations.

The project uses images from the Middle Ages, but it encourages reflection on what is happening today. It is time for us to take responsibility for preserving the unique nature of the Earth and the purity of our consciousness.
